Rotoscope is basically tracing over or putting a filter on a selected (or all of) a video. For animation, this video is transferred into frames but is still a video. In the rotoscope examples on the wiki page, there were many techniques used. Some filters, some digital drawings and some hand drawn. I really like the third one the best. It is a boy walking in the woods with his dad. It is digitally drawn but looks hand drawn in the way it was done. I think this adds a childish effect to it because there is a kid in it and it really works. They also used the original sound from the video instead of dubbing it or just layering music over it. I thought this was cool and gave it an original touch. My favorite part about it was when the kid was running and the drawings kid or got "sloppy" to give the sense of movement and a blur. It also had good concept of the boy talking about how he used to be a tree while he is walking outside. The second one is just there because it has some rotoscope in it and I have always loved it.
